kaye: best thing to do is to set the dish and omtor settings inthe receiver to thors - at 0.8w....thats about as good as south as you can get. Once that is set up then you can start to move to move the dish to other satellites and adjuts the settings accordingly. SOmetime s the user manual of the motor tells you settings for Usals....the automatically satellite searching system.

Getting a bit desperate to fix my sat installation. I got monoblock duo LNB configured to get Sirius and Hotbird - all was working fine for 5 years, then it stopped working for no reason. No tree or anything new. I changed the cable connections once in 6 months or so as I move reciever from one room to the other. Could I get the LNB damaged ? I tried different cables, I get only 30% signal strength. Tried to re-align the dish - no help. Tried another reciever - same picture. Is something wrong with my LNB?

robert: I am sure it is possible...but sometimes the meters can cause a drop in signal also, so although the meter says one thing, by the time the signal has gone throught the meter, the signal may be lower than what you care receiving without the meter! And sometimes the receiver may give a better indcation of signal than a meter, especially if you use a simple "beeper" unit.
And dont forget that different frequencies will have different strengths and characteristics.

hi , is it possible to have a meter connected in between the receiver and the motor of a motorised system so when looking to tune in my box i can look for the strongest signal better than using the strength line on the screen from the motor set up screen ,regards

Joe:
Yes a meter connetced to a multiswitch and quadro LNB will work.
But ideally a decent meter is required and you connect that to each of the 4 output to align the LNB and dish better, rather than going via the multiswicth which can give eooroneou readings, due to any amplification if may have.

I have just bought the cheapest complete satellite system that I could find from Maplin...it was recommended by many people. I bought it because when we go away in our caravan the tv aerial does not always pick up a good local signal here in Norfolk.

I just did not give any thought to just how critical it was to point the dish towards the sky and find a satellite....I understand nothing when it comes to setting up the satellite system.

Reason for contacting this site?....can you suggest somewhere that I can get basic info? The written instructions are no better or worse than most other manuals, they just do not make much sense to a beginner.

Any info will be appreciated......Norman

Hi Alan
Can you please tell me if a satellite finder meter can be used on the output of a multiswitch. So a dish with a Quatro LMB ( or is it a Quad that gives the 4 separate parts of a signal ) can be tuned.

Cheers
